No need to blame our leaders.

The problems we deal with everyday require some form of responsibility from us.
So the security bulb is not working and right outside your gate there's a big manhole that has a rusted metal sheet and big rock that act as the cover. This has been there for the past three weeks.
Did you mention it to the Landlord? No. Why? Well its common sense they ought to fix it.
The entrance to your flats has a big sign on it that says, "PLEASE KEEP THE GATE LOCKED" that is rarely applied by anyone using that gate, including yourself. Once in a while when you do close the gate you are greeted by sneers and murmurs from the very neighbours you thought you were protecting.

The security guy is an errand boy by day and by night squandered off the meagre earnings he made. So at night security is not really his priority. He came after his bosom and drinking mate lost the job.

So when the security guy in his drunken stupor got a deep cut on his head on the same night that three houses were broken into and no one saw anything. The security lights were off, what did you expect. You have no one but yourself to blame for all these things.

All these could be averted by each individual taking responsibility and doing very little to save so much more. A bulb goes for less than 50Kenya shillings, fixing it would cost nothing. The welding and proper cover up of a man hole would cost less than 2000 Kenyan shillings before someone gets hurt and has to spend over 10,000Kenya shillings on treatment. Finally it would cost you nothing to lock up your gate. Actually it would help you loose some calories(some of these gates make one a contortionist in the process of locking them up) so its good for your health.

Its the same attitude that we have that's why we have leaders who can afford to sit in parliament and discuss(note "discuss") where nine billion Kenya shillings disappeared to in the allocation of funds in the budget.

I know it starts with us so before we go saying that we have bad irresponsible and ignorant leaders lets find out if the ones being led are any better.
